To advance book your newborn session or book when baby arrives?
Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most precious moments—and capturing those early days through professional newborn photography creates memories that last a lifetime. But one of the biggest questions new parents face is: When should I book my newborn session?
As an experienced newborn photographer, I’m here to help you understand the difference between booking in advance versus booking last-minute, and why timing matters more than you might think. From experience, each client is different some people are super organised and booking in advance takes the stress away from thinking about it once baby does arrive. Where other clients might want to adjust to new parenthood and then decide to find a photographer.
Why Booking Your Newborn Session in Advance Is a Smart Move
1. Guaranteed Availability
Professional newborn photographers in Cheshire often limit the number of sessions they take per month to allow flexibility around unpredictable due dates. Booking early ensures your spot is secured, especially during busy seasons.
2. Best Time for Newborn Photos
The ideal time for newborn photography is within the first 5–16 days of life, when babies are still sleepy and naturally curled up. Booking ahead allows your photographer to tentatively schedule your session around your due date, with room for adjustments.
3. Customised Session Planning
When you book in advance, you’ll have time to discuss the session style, props, colors, and outfit choices. Your newborn photographer will guide you through every detail, so your session reflects your family’s personality and vision.
4. Less Stress for New Parents
Having your newborn session planned before baby arrives takes one big task off your list. It gives you peace of mind, knowing that those tiny, fleeting moments will be beautifully captured.
Can You Book Last-Minute? Yes, But With a Few Considerations
Life happens—and sometimes things don’t go to plan. If your baby has already arrived and you haven’t booked your newborn photoshoot in Cheshire, don’t worry!
1. There Might Be Space
Photographers occasionally have cancellations or last-minute availability, so it’s always worth reaching out.
2. Older Baby, Different Style
If your newborn is a bit older than two weeks, your session may include more awake shots or different posing but these can be just as lovely and meaningful.I offer baby sessions called ‘Milestones’ which are perfect for those older newborns from 3 months old to 9 months.
3. Less Flexibility
With last-minute sessions, you may have fewer choices when it comes to timing or session setups. A seasoned newborn photographer will still make the most of your session, even on short notice.
When Should You Book? Ideally, During Your Second Trimester
To ensure availability and allow time for thoughtful planning, it’s best to book your newborn photography session during your second trimester. This lets me pencil in a flexible date and provide you with plenty of helpful prep info. Not only is this a great time but you might also be considering a ‘Maternity session’ and I offer some wonderful packages and even a newborn photography discount for mamas who book both sessions.
However, if you’ve already welcomed your baby—get in touch as soon as possible. I will always do my very best to fit you in!
