Morning Sickness - Top ten Natural remedy tips
Morning sickness — it’s one of the most well-known early signs of pregnancy, but despite the name, it doesn’t just strike in the morning. For many mums-to-be, nausea can linger all day, especially in the first trimester. Thankfully, there are a few gentle, natural ways to help ease those queasy feelings so you can focus on enjoying your pregnancy journey.
I myself during both my pregnancies struggled not just for the first trimester but throughout the whole 9 months. During this time I researched and have tried lots of difference strategies. For me small dry meals helped, ginger tea, and bands. I preferred natural remedies and these were my first port of call. However in the end I did end up with some help from my Doctor as my sickness was so strong (and it was in my wedding photography era so it was much needed) Remember everyones journey is unique and you have to do whats best for you. There are no right or wrong ways to conquer Pregnancy sickness/Nausea.
Please find below some of my tried and tested morning sickness remedies.
Natural Remedies for Morning Sickness
1. Ginger – Nature’s Antinausea Hero
Whether it’s in tea, biscuits (got to love the biscuits) capsules or even ginger ale, this spicy root is a go-to remedy for soothing an unsettled stomach. Many pregnant women find relief from sipping ginger tea or snacking on ginger-rich foods throughout the day.
2. Acupressure Wristbands
Often used for travel sickness, these elastic wristbands apply pressure to a specific point on the inner wrist (P6 or Nei-Kuan). They’re drug-free, reusable, and a popular choice for expectant mums who want a non-invasive remedy. Amazon do some great ones.
3. Eat Little and Often
Instead of three large meals, aim for small, frequent snacks. Plain crackers, dry toast, bananas, and plain pasta are all easy on the stomach. Keeping a light snack by the bed and eating before getting up can also help prevent early morning nausea.

4. Vitamin B6 Supplements
Some research suggests that vitamin B6 can help reduce nausea. Always consult your midwife or GP before taking any supplements during pregnancy.
5. Stay Hydrated (But Sip Slowly)
Sipping water or sucking on ice chips can keep you hydrated without overwhelming your stomach. Try infusing water with lemon or mint if plain water doesn’t appeal.
6. Avoid Triggers
Strong smells, heat, and certain foods can all bring on nausea. Keep a note of your triggers and adjust your environment when possible — fresh air, cool rooms, and subtle scents can make a big difference. Even certain music used to send me super sick when I was pregnant.
7. Lemon – A Fresh Scent That Helps
The zesty smell of lemon can be surprisingly effective in easing nausea. Try sniffing a fresh lemon slice, adding lemon to your water, or using a natural lemon-scented essential oil (diffused safely).
8. Cold Foods Over Hot Meals
Many mums find cold foods easier to tolerate than hot ones, which often have stronger smells. Think smoothies, chilled fruit, cold pasta salads, or yoghurt – gentle and nourishing.
9. Rest and Gentle Movement
Exhaustion can worsen nausea, so rest is essential. But gentle movement, like a slow walk in the fresh air, can also help settle your stomach and boost circulation.
10. Herbal Teas (With Caution)
Peppermint tea can be soothing, and chamomile may help calm your stomach and nerves. Always check with your midwife first, as not all herbal teas are recommended in pregnancy.
I hope these tips have helped if your currently in the wrath of ‘Morning Sickness’ :)
Even during the queasiest stages, pregnancy is a beautiful and transformative time worth celebrating. Many mums say they feel their best around 28–34 weeks — just when morning sickness has typically eased and your bump is showing off its lovely shape.
